Mixing Mediums...sorta :-)

Soooo, since I haven't done a LOTD post in a minute (I blame my lack of a photographer), I thought I'd share...because you care, lol.


Today was real blah. The weather was mild for the most part, but the day was so very gray and dreary. I probably should have gone bright with my outfit but I was in a more neutral mood. As I am prone to do, I played it safe, not really taking any chances, not doing anything overtly exciting. I blame it on the anal retentive straight laced Virgo in me, lol. One thing I am enjoying though is mixing different patterns. I'm actually proud of today's outfit because though very casual and neutral, I played around in a way the old me would never have done. There's hope for me yet :-D

And there you have it. Basic, comfy, neutral but still cute IMO. I loved putting the black/white plaid bag with khaki and Leopard and denim and oatmeal and olive....it gave me a real thrill, lol. What do you think? Progress?

Election Day

 
Though I'm a few days late and several dollars short (and the Dems/Obama are SOL), I thought I'd share my laid back election day look. Most folks were at the polls looking harried, hurried and worried. Post election day, I'm thinking perhaps folks should have taken more time to research candidates before casting a vote. Ah well, c'est la vie. On to the out of it outfit...

I've always loved African prints and my BFF knows this so I was elated when he gave me this Kente print Dashiki for my bornday back in 2007. I've worn this Dashiki as a dress, as seen here...

(albeit a very short dress). I also wear it over jeans/leggings, tucked into jeans, under cardis, belted, etc. It's gorgeous and versatile and I LOVE it! 

 

My lighting was oh so bad but I made lemonade with those lemons.

Tie it then dye it: Breaking out of the safe zone

Dearest fair maidens, dashing divas and glamorous gals,

How are you? Feeling fab I hope :-)

Today was the most wonderfully perfect day! The weather in the Chi wasn't too hot nor was it too cool, the sun shone just right and I spent some QT with my daughter and one of her besties. Another special thing about today is the fact that my daughter and I collaborated (somewhat) on my outfit today and then she and her friend played photographer for me, lol. This is my first true outfit of the day blog and I'm kind of excited to share :-D


Before I get into what I wore, I'd like to point out that I am still trying to find my voice when it come to my personal style. Typically, I dress "safe". By that I mean, I stay away from bright colors and patterns, my style usually lacks any kind of flair and I prefer to keep under the radar. But I am so very tired of safe, I'm so tired of all neutral/black/white/primary colors everything. I want to add some boldness to my repertoire! I want to live out louder! And in the spirit of this desire, I totally went against my nature and wore something that is very not me: Tie  Dye. Yikes!


Tie dye is as loud, funky and chaotic as one can get and that's why I included it in today's outfit. So without further ado, I present me tied, dyed and everything BUT laid to the side!

Lovely loc updates!

Dearest fair maidens, dashing divas and glamorous gals, how are you? Feeling fab I hope :-)

As you may know (by looking at my pics and watching my vids) I have locs! I started my loc journey on February 22, 2009. As of May 15, 2010, I am almost 15 months loc'ed and loving it! I have yet to do a beginning to current loc journey vid, but I have shot some loc update/retwist vids. I'll be posting my first ever loc vids along with two newer vids (though they were shot in November and December of 2009 respectfully). At any rate, I'm loving my journey and I love to share it with others and I love to witness the progression of other loc journeyers soooo, feel free to shar your links, pics, blogs, whatever! Playing with makeup (1)

So the other day, when I was extremely bored and hiding from my emotions...I put on some makeup and made a video about it. I've been dabbling in makeup application since about March 2009 I believe. I never did it as a child or teen so now in adulthood, I'm trying to get it in. I've not perfected any techniques/looks, I just do what I do after watching tutorials on youtube. Since I'm a veritable novice (and uber frugal) I only buy makeup from drugstores when it's on sale. I have a few high end items, but only because they were free with qualifying purchases of non-makeup items. At any rate, here's my first "look of the day" makeup vid.
